Fields and Peaks in Sierra Nevada

Covering 86,000 hectares, the Sierra Nevada (‘Snowy Mountains’) is one of Spain’s most important natural areas, home to hundreds of plant species. Its highest peaks are Mulhacén (3,479 m) and Veleta (3,394 m).

The Sierra Nevada is one of the southernmost places in Europe where snow remains visible for much of the year. Despite the heat in the nearby city of Granada during summer, snow can occasionally still be found on the highest peaks.

The mountain range is also home to one of southern Europe’s best-known ski areas, with several ski slopes and winter sports facilities around Pradollano.

At the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains lies Granada - at an altitude of 738 meters above sea level. If you want to visit the Sierra Nevada, the city is the logical choice for having a cup of coffee or visiting the Alhambra.
